May 2024

May is always an exciting month.  It signals the coming end to another school year.  The trails are most likely ready for mountain biking.  And, of course, knowing summer is right around the corner is such a good feeling.

May 2nd:  Emma (and other girls on the bike team) had the awesome opportunity to go on a bike ride with a former Park City High School bike team member and Olympian, Haley Batten!  It was all part of a promo they were filming for Visit Park City.

May 4th:  Andy and I went to dinner at the Park City Follies with his mom, aunt, and uncle.

May 5th:  We had some girls from the bike team over to make some decorations for the GRiT (Girls Riding Together) events.

Winter is not over yet... (big sigh)

May 7th:  This never gets old.  We love having wildlife make their home in our yard for a couple of days.

May 9th:  Happy 11th birthday, Abigail!!!

May 10th:  To celebrate Mother's Day (and Andy and Abigail's birthdays), we went glass blowing!  It was so much fun!!  There was a "professional" there to help us, but they let us do a lot of the work.

May 11th:  Emma and I went to Soldier Hollow (in Midway) to watch the Pan Am Games.  Athletes from 40+ countries compete in various mountain biking events.  This was the first time the mountain biking championships were back in the U.S. in 20 years.  It was also a qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Summer Games.

Afterwards, we went to a Q & A with Haley Batten and Kate Courtney.

May 12th:  There may still be snow on the trails, but that doesn't stop us from getting out!

That afternoon, we went to Annie at the Eccles Theatre with Andy's mom and my sister.

May 16th:  Here are our finished products from glass blowing.  They turned out so good!

May 18th:  It's Running with Ed. day!!  This year, Emma wanted to form a team with some girls from the bike team so I joined them.  It was the perfect day for a run through beautiful Park City.  Andy and Abigail ran with our McPolin staff and they dressed up at Dojo monsters.

May 21st:  Today was Abigail's 5th grade track meet.  Fortunately, it's at Dozier field (next to the high school) so Andy and I could walk over and watch one of her events.

After school, it was off to tryouts for the Park City Soccer Club.  Abby is now a member of the 2013 White team.  Our busy schedule just got a whole lot busier!

May 22nd:  We had a bulletin board at school where the 5th grade students wrote about their favorite part about being a McPolin Moose.  Take a peek at what our Abigail wrote...  (sniff, sniff)

After school that day, Abigail had her remote control car race at Trailside Elementary.  Since January, groups of 5th graders have been building a remote control car.  This was the final event when the kids got to race their cars around the baseball field.

Meanwhile, Emma and I had a GRiT event for the bike team at Paint Fusion.  It was great to get a lot of the girls together and have some fun with painting.

May 24th:  Today was the McPolin talent show.  Abigail and some friends performed a small bit from one of Taylor Swift's songs.  At the end, all 5th graders sang "A Million Dreams."

May 26th:  There no better way to celebrate Andy's birthday than a family bike ride (and a little playground fun).

Emma loves to leave pictures of herself on our phones...

That afternoon, it was off to Nibley Park Golf Course for our first round of golf as a family.  We warmed up with hitting some balls at the driving range.

May 27th:  Another family bike ride it is!

May 28th:  All 5th graders tie-dyed t-shirts for their hike up PC hill.

May 30th:  I was lucky to get to go on Abigail's last elementary field trip.  We went to the State Capitol which was awesome!  I had never been there before.

May 31st:  The Multicultural Festival at our school never disappoints!  The teachers and students work really hard on their dances and this is when they get to show off to the families.  This year, Abby's class performed a dance from the song "Footloose."  So fun!
