The snow is melting...fast! With about 2 months left of school, it's crazy time from now until June 6th.
April 4th: We had a gift certificate for the High West Distillery Supper Club in Wanship. Right when we got seated, the hostess brought Andy and me a High West cocktail. Our appetizer was fondue and the dinner buffet was so delicious!! The whole atmosphere was amazing.
April 5th: Today we skied at Alta with some friends. Then we watched a little music at the lodge.
April 11th: We headed down to Salt Lake for a Utah Royals (women's professional soccer) game.
April 14th: It's the start of our Spring Break!! On our way to our first campsite, we stopped at a tiny town called Pinto, where Andy and his family used to go for family reunions every year. It is in the middle of nowhere and you get to it by dirt roads.
They still have the Tullis Family Reunion here each year.
For 2 nights we stayed at Gunlock Reservoir.
April 15th: Today we biked and hiked in Snow Canyon State Park.
We hiked into a couple of lava tubes.
On the way back to camp, we stopped in Veyo for some of their famous pie.
We had visitors at the campground.
Emma was a rockstar and washed our bikes...
...and made dinner.
She even started our campfire.
April 16th: Then it was off to Zion National Park, where we spent 3 nights at a campground a 1/2 mile from the visitor center. We didn't waste any time getting on the trails. After setting up camp, we rode our bikes to the visitor center so we could hop on the shuttle. We hiked to the Lower, Middle, and Upper Emerald Pools.
Abby got the fire started tonight.
April 17th: Today was an exciting, check-that-off-the-bucket-list day! We hiked The Narrows--awesome!
biking to get on the shuttle, in our gear
It was a 1-mile hike in to get to the Narrows.
We were all exhausted on the way back. It takes a lot of mental and physical energy to navigate your way through a river, watching out for rocks and making sure the river doesn't push you over.
April 18th: In the morning, we hiked the West Rim Trail. This included Walter's Wiggles. Walter's Wiggles led us to Scout Lookout, which had amazing views of the park.
Somebody was tired...
That afternoon, we hopped on our bikes and road the park road. The road was only open to shuttle buses but we had to pull over and put both feet on the ground when there was a bus behind us. Safety first! We rode about 11 miles, with the last few miles in a hail storm that came out of nowhere.
April 20th: Happy Easter! Emma insists on doing an egg hunt each year. She even helps us fill the eggs now.
April 26th: With Andy out of town at a Phish concert, the girls and I decided to go to the zoo to see Zoolumination--so cool.
