Our spring break was the week of April 5th-9th and it did not disappoint. This year, we biked the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park! We did 80 miles of the 100-mile loop. We always had the truck right behind the bikers as a support vehicle so either Andy or I always had to be driving the truck. The girls biked about 50 miles and Andy and I each biked about 40 miles (since we had to split out time between driving and biking). It is something Andy has always wanted to do so we took full advantage of the opportunity and crossed that off our list!
The guinea pigs went on their first field trip! Andy's mom watched them while we were away.
We went down a day earlier than our friends and spent one night on the north side of Arches National Park.
This was our first time exploring Canyonlands National Park as a family.
Do you see that road? That is the start of our drive/ride.
Abigail and Olivia (our friend's daughter--and one of my students--waiting to get started)
I biked first while Andy drove the truck.
The first day was pretty mellow. It was only 9 miles to our campsite and it was all down hill.
Our 1st campsite: Shafer
Good Morning!
Our 2nd day was our longest day--40 miles!
There were places to stop and enjoy the views along the way. There were also arches.
Yep, that's the trail.
Can you see the (flat) arch/bridge?
The views just never got old. It was such amazing scenery!
The driving got a bit gnarly (and terrifying) in some spots. There were many times that the bikers could go faster than the trucks.
Day #3: 21 miles. It was not as long as the previous day, but this was the hardest driving day. There were many spots where we all had to stop so we could fill in big holes and dips on the road so you wouldn't rub the bottom of the vehicles.
Black Crack--this is a very long crack that starts skinny and then gets a bit wider. You can't see the bottom which is a bit terrifying in itself.
Our 3rd (and final) campsite was on the Green River. The kids had a blast playing in the water and it was a welcome reprieve to cool down your body temperature after a warm day on the trail.
It's hard to see the trail, but this is what we would be biking up the next morning.
Our friend, Heather, and Emma decided they wanted to hike to the top of this mountain after dinner.
Day #4 would take us to the end of our journey. We really lucked out with the weather. There was some wind but, other than that, we couldn't have asked for better weather.
