The girls and I did a little landscaping.
What a gorgeous setting for a bike ride!
Emma was absolutely beside herself that her best friend, Olive, moved back to town. Olive and her family came up to hang out with us at the cabin.
It was like no time had even passed.
This is a happy girl who had a blast at the cabin.
This is 5 minutes later...zonked out!
Andy spent Father's Day golfing with his dad, and then we met up with them later in the afternoon for a swim and BBQ.
This was Andy's gift from the girls.
Before that, the girls and I went to the zoo to get a peak at the baby lions. It was a warm day so they were resting in the shade.
We also made sure to check out the new kids area.
The rope bridge was the biggest hit.
Rizzo was resting in the shade, as well.
It's a good thing we could cool off with a swim at the pool.
Finally, on Wednesday, we went up to Idaho for a couple nights of camping at City of Rocks. It was pretty amazing!
all packed and excited to go
We tried something new this time. We had a walk-in campsite, which means we had to carry all of our gear about 100 feet to our site. The girls were big helpers.
We love our hammock!
When you are at City of Rocks, it's only natural for kids to want to climb on rocks.
And this was the day we got there! Dirty kids = happy kids
We went for a lovely 2-hour hike. Abigail walked about 1 1/2 miles until she wanted me to carry her in the backpack. Lucky for me, she chose the part of the hike called "stairways" to get into the backpack. It was about 1/2 mile of all uphill and stairs. I considered it training for my half marathon.
The creek was a big relief from the hot weather.
City of Rocks is well-known for rock climbing. We even saw a whole group of people from the University of Michigan.
It's amazing how educational you can make a hike. We talked about flowers, insects, creeks, landforms, etc... We even saw a beetle giving another beetle a piggy back ride. (You get my drift? We did not go there yet.)
Later that afternoon, we went back to the creek for a little break from the heat. The girls played in the water for an hour.
2 happy parents whose kids are occupied with the water
The girls had so much fun naming all of the rocks. This one, however, was already named Elephant Rock.
The girls named this one Cow Rock because cows were around it.
They named this one "U" Rock because it, well, looked like a U.
This one looked like a turtle so we named it Turtle Rock.
This rock looked like a gorilla so, naturally, we name it Gorilla Rock.
This rock is named Camp Rock (really). Travelers walking along the California Trail back in the mid to late 1800's signed their names in axle grease.
