Bringing 2020 to a Close

As we all know, 2020 was year like no other.  Even though we couldn't have any visitors for the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas), we still made the best of our time and made even more memories as a family.  Let's start all the way back at Thanksgiving break...

It was just the 4 of us and Andy's mom for Thanksgiving dinner.  Emma made a pumpkin pie (all from scratch) and it was deeeeeelicious!

We had a Zoomsgiving with Andy's family from all over the country (and Mexico).

We played Tiger Woods Golf.

Andy and the girls made caramels, something Andy's grandma used to make each year.  After a few years, I think Andy has finally figured out the trick to making them just right.

We welcomed 2 new family members--Ruth and Patches.  The girls had been wanting to get guinea pigs and Emma even created a powerpoint presentation to persuade us.  It worked.

The girls and I did some holiday crafting.  They love to do crafts, just like their mama.

One of our favorite holiday traditions is cutting down our own Christmas tree in the Uinta National Forest.  It wasn't quite as challenging, this year, since our snow level is much lower than in past years.

Then we had to decorate it, right away, of course.

And that meant the other holiday decorations started to go up...

We took a lot of walks around the neighborhood, played games, and worked on a puzzle.

We continued to stay busy until the end of 2020, with 3 weeks of school and a 2-week winter break.  We got out skiing for the first time this season, the girls started their ski lessons, we celebrated Christmas with just the 4 of us, and continued to make more family memories.

Abigail loves to help me in my classroom.  Her job it to put the books from the book quarantine bin back into the correct buckets.

1st family ski of the season!

Game time!

The girls and I did some holiday baking.

We did not get a chance to see Santa this year so the girls burned their letters in the fireplace. (This was a tradition Andy did with his family when he was a kid.)

On December 19th, the girls had their first day of ski lessons.  Not only do the girls get a full day of ski instruction, but then Andy and I get a day to ski or get things done around the house.

On Christmas Eve, we made tree-shaped pizzas for dinner.  Yum!

We let the girls open 1 gift that night.  Only in 2020 would you get masks for Christmas.

Christmas Day

We may have given each of the girls a gift that will go into our new Escapod trailer (which we will get in June).

We always have scones for breakfast on Christmas morning.

We need lots of energy to go ski in our Santa suits!

We even made the local newspaper.

The remainder of our winter break was filled with lots of outdoor time, skiing, relaxation, cleaning, and family fun.

Abigail loves her big unicorn stuffy (named Rainbow).

playing some of our new games--Headbanz and...

Mexican Train

We went ice skating, which required reservations.

We did a little rearranging, which brought out some of our photo albums.  The girls spent a lot of time looking through them and asking questions...lots of questions.

Merry Christmas to us.

The girls loved playing with their new toys and gifts.

We went cross-country skiing.

Abigail likes to off-rode it.

Emma really wanted to try snowboarding so, while Andy taught Emma some beginning skills, Abigail and I did a few runs up on the mountain.

Andy and I have each been trying to get out with both girls and then 1 at a time.  One day, the girls and I ventured down to Main Street to do a little shopping, look at the cool snow globes, and then we went to the Park City Museum for a locals day.

New Year's Eve walk

For New Year's Eve, a bunch of our friends joined us on an app called Houseparty.

We wish you all a safe, healthy, and "mostly" normal 2021!
