Sundance and Sledding

What a fun weekend!  It all started on Friday evening when Andy and I went to our first, of three, Sundance films for this year.  It was called The End of the Tour and was about a Rolling Stone reporter who went on tour with author David Foster Wallace (around 1996) in hopes of writing an article about him in Rolling Stone.  To make a long story short, he never ended up publishing the article because he was put on a different story.  David Foster Wallace ended his own life in 2008. It was a really good movie.

Joan Cusack is in the middle.

Jason Segel is the tall guy in the middle.  He played the role of David Foster Wallace.  Jesse Eisenberg played the role of the Rolling Stone reporter but he was not there because he was filming a movie in Europe.
After the film, the cast and crew go up on stage and answer a few audience members' questions.  The actors are usually only there for the world premiere showings.

On Saturday, we went to Main Street for our traditional "breakfast on Main Street during the first weekend of the Sundance craziness."  We took full advantage of our free city transit system.

Abigail's first bus ride on the city bus

Emma and her classmates take the city bus all around town for field trips and, every Wednesday for five weeks, ski lessons at Park City Mountain Resort.

Later that afternoon, we had some friends over for some sledding.  Andy has been working hard on the track and it is a blast!

After a couple hours of sledding, we indulged in a fondue feast.

It was "snow" much fun!!

Oh, wait, but the weekend is not over, yet.  This afternoon, Andy and I went to our second Sundance film.  Me and Earl and the Dying Girl was a tear-jerker.  It's about a boy, Greg, who is a senior in high school, is socially-awkward, and really only has one friend, Earl.  Greg's mom pretty much forces him to befriend Rachel, a 17 year-old who has been diagnosed with leukemia.  He realizes that he actually wants to be her friend.  I'll leave it at that, just in case it comes out on the "big screen."

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is based on a book.  The author is in the red and the director of the film is to his left.

Some of the cast and crew of the film

Not the best quality, but Molly Shannon is in the black dress, Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) is to her left, and then on his left is Connie Britton (Nashville).

These are the "porta-potties" that are outside of the Eccles Theatre.  Not too shabby, huh?

Winter Break (Week 2) and Beyond...

I realize I am a little late in posting some of these photos.  After a 2-week break from work, it's amazing how refreshed and re-energized we felt when we went back to work on January 5th.  But...20 minutes back at work and, BAM!, the feeling of being overwhelmed and 2 steps behind hits you again.  Andy also started back at the U on January 12th.  So, let's get to the real reason you check our blog:

Getting ready to play in the backyard...

We ventured out for a snowshoe in our backyard,

and spent some time playing on the playset.

One of the views from our backyard...

Andy and I got out for a day of skiing.  We just had to stop by the meadow where we got married.

We like Emma to get in a little writing practice whenever we can, so she wrote down our picks for the NFL Playoffs.

This little snowman has proven to be one of Abigail's very good friends.

Helping to shovel the driveway...

On the Sunday before we went back to school after Winter Break, the power went out at about 3:00 p.m.  We ended up ordering pizza for dinner, since we couldn't cook anything.  We turned on every light source we could find, including our camping lights,

headlamps,

lanterns,

and even a clever way to let the light shine further.
The power did not end up turning back on until 3:00 a.m.

Hanging out with Uncle Ben

Some friends and their little kiddos came up to Park City for a little kiddos ski day at Park City Mountain Resort.  It was a lot of fun!

We don't have Abby on skis, yet, but Andy and I took her on the magic carpet a handful of times and she loved it!

Another fun family snowshoe!

Helping me make some pancakes

After the frustrating Packers loss yesterday, this little cutie sure has a way to make us laugh.
