February, Already?!

And just like that, with a blink of an eye, January is over.  With our unseasonably warm temperatures and lack of snow, I can't say we have been skiing the time away.  Emma and Abby have definitely gotten out the most, though, with their weekly ski lessons.

So let's go back to mid-January, where I last left off...

Some of our staff had a TGIF at our local "Escape Room" and it was so much fun!  With about a minute left, we got out!  It's so nice to interact with friends and co-workers outside of the school setting.

We love to take advantage of the free city bus system, too!

Andy and I had a date day during the first weekend of the Sundance Film Festival.  We had a 9 a.m. film called Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot.  It's a dramatic film about the cartoonist John Callahan.

It's always fun to listen to the producers, directors, etc... speak.  This film got its start from an idea from Robin Williams and, unfortunately, he never got to see it become a reality.

Then we spent the rest of the day on the slopes.  Luckily, we had just gotten a big snowfall the night before so it was great skiing.

We had been having problems with our refrigerator and our dishwasher was not getting our dishes clean so it was time to replace them both.

Ta-da!

The girls (and Andy) are at the climbing gym about 2-3 times/week.  Emma even started taking a climbing class once/week.  She is so strong!

This little one is like a monkey out there!

For Christmas, I gave Andy a book of 12 pre-planned dates, one for each month.  We were supposed to go cross-country skiing for our February date but our lack of snow allowed us to go for a nice hike, instead.

This trail is usually groomed 2x during the week because of all of the snow we usually have at this time.

World Cup: Aerials

Andy and I are constantly amazed at this place we call home--Park City, Utah.  The population is constantly fluctuating, based on the season and time of year.  There are special events happening all throughout the year.  The Sundance Film Festival starts tomorrow, which means A LOT more traffic and a sudden influx of people, mostly wearing black.  We've learned to embrace these opportunities and just become a part of them.  That includes the awesome opportunities we can give our girls.  Last weekend is just one example.  One of our resorts, Deer Valley, was host to the World Cup--Moguls and Aerials.  The top 3 competitors made it to the Olympics.  We ventured out to watch the aerials competition last Friday night.  We've watch aerials on TV but, oh my goodness, to see it live was amazing!

Arches National Park...Winter Style

What do we do when our ski passes are blacked out from the day after Christmas to New Year's Day?  We take a road trip to Moab, Utah to explore the beautiful Arches National Park.  While we have been to Arches before, we have never had a winter adventure in the park.  It was absolutely amazing!  The contrast of colors from the desert rock and sand to the snow was beautiful.  I'm not sure if the photos will do it justice, but come along as we take a look back at this memorable trip.

This time, we took a road in from the north entrance.  It's not very popular but it sure is scenic.

Before heading into town to check into our hotel, we stopped and did a quick hike around 3 arches: Turrett Arch, South Window, and North Window.

We stayed at the Homewood Suites and took full advantage of the indoor pool.  The girls swam each afternoon after our long days of hiking and exploring.

Abby is turning into quite the little fish.  She was a hard one to get out of the pool.

On Thursday, we explored an area of the park called Devil's Garden.  It was a 5-mile hike that introduced us to 5 new arches:  Tunnel, Pine Tree, Landscape, Navajo, and Partition.

We were amazed at how busy it was in the park.  Even though it was "off-season" there were still lines to get into the park and there were lots of other people on the hikes.

Some of the trails had some icy parts so the next time we head out on a winter adventure we'll be sure to pack our YakTrax.

That's Landscape Arch on the left.  It's the size of a football field!

Abby wrote down the arches we saw that day.

On Friday, we started our day by hiking up to see the back side of Delicate Arch.  We did not plan on hiking the front side of Delicate Arch (because Andy, Emma, and I had done that one before) but our spontaneity got the best of us and off we went so we could experience it as a family.

After hiking up to Delicate Arch, we stopped for a quick hike to Double Arch.

Do you see the "T" (for Tullis)?!

This is one exhausted 7-year old.  I think she almost fell asleep at dinner.

Before we made the trip home, we squeezed in another hike on the Park Avenue trail.

The girls earned their first Junior Ranger pins! (And we have many more opportunities for them to earn more because we bought a National Parks annual pass.)

In total, we hiked about 14 miles in 3 days.  The girls did awesome, even with some icy trails.  They were all about this adventure!
