Summer Has Come to an End

When we got back from our road trip, we still had a lot of summer left.  We tried to make most out of the time.

July 2nd: We went to a concert and drone show at Canyons.

July 4th:  Brighton is the place to be on the 4th of July!

Frisbee golf is a must-do when you are at the cabin.

There is a pretty fun rock the girls love to climb.

July 6th: My sister and the girls reorganized our spice cabinet.

I don't think I got a before picture, but this is the after...

July 8th:  We love going to outdoor concerts during the summer.  This one was at Newpark.

July 9th:  When you need something to do, why not do a guinea pig photo shoot?!

July 11th-15th: Abigail went to a basketball camp at Basin Recreation.

July 13th:  Bike ride with my mountain biker

Abigail insisted on doing some baking.  They turned out delicious!

That evening, Andy and I went to see Trampled By Turtles at the Sandy Amphitheater. Even with the hour-long lightning hold, it was a super fun concert.

July 15th:  Emma and I put in a few volunteer hours to help get set up for the Echo Triathlon.

Our biggest job was putting 500 stickers on the bike racks.

July 16th-17th:  We were back in Brighton for a couple days of fresh mountain air.

We did a beautiful hike from the cabin to Twin Lakes to Lake Mary and then back to the cabin.

July 18th: We spent a lot of time at the Crestview pool (where both Neena and Aunt Tina have condos).

July 21st:  Andy made a cornhole set and then the girls each painted one of them.

July 23rd: Family bike ride at the Utah Olympic Park

July 27th:  We met our friend, Dawn, for lunch before she made the move back to Alaska (which is where we met waaaaaaaay back in 2002).

July 29th-31st:  We had one last camping trip before Andy had to report back to work on August 4th.  With the warmer weather, Starvation Reservoir was the perfect place to spend a couple of days.

That means the guineas get to go on a field trip to the guinea pig-sitter's house!

August 3rd:  It wouldn't be summer without a trip to a baseball game--Salt Lake City Bees.

August 5th: We went to the Imagine Dragons concert at Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake.  The girls each got to bring a friend along.  It was such a fun concert!!  Macklemore was one of the opening acts and he was awesome, too!

Kings Elliot was the first opening act.

Macklemore (who has a song with Tones and I called Chant)

August 9th:  We celebrated our 14th Anniversary at the Silver Star Cafe.

August 12th:  August brought us a lot of rain, mostly in the form of 30-minute torrential downpours in the afternoon.  This is what happened at school during one of those downpours.

August 13th:  Emma had her first bike race--the Gold Cup at Soldier Hollow.  It is not part of the Utah High School Cycling League (which is what she races in for the mountain bike team), but it was a great way for Emma to get the jitters out.

We had to get there bright and early.  I believe we left the house at 6:15 a.m.

She and her very good friend, Katharine, both took the podium!  (Side note: Emma took a wrong turn, added 2 1/2 miles onto her race, but there were only 2 girls in her age group so she still got a silver medal!)
