A Whole Lot to Share

It has been a busy fall!  There has been such a hodgepodge of activities but they have given us a small glimmer of hope that we can still keep some things "normal."

We got a new deck!  Andy and his dad put in a lot of work and it looks amazing!

These poor guineas.  They put up with a lot...

August 11th-13th: We had family from Maryland come and stay with us for a few days.

August 14th:  Before school started, we had one last weekend at the cabin together. On our first morning, we did a beautiful hike to 3 lakes: Mary, Martha, Catherine

That afternoon, while we were sitting on the deck at the cabin, we heard about a fire in Parley's Canyon.  It was about a mile from the summit.  At that time, there was a voluntary evacuation in place for Summit Park.  We left the girls with my sister at the cabin and we drove home, in a bit of a panic, to grab our necessities.  On the way home, I made a list of what we needed so we knew exactly what to grab.  When we got to our neighborhood, it was already surrounded with sheriffs, police, etc...  We had 20 minutes.  We grabbed what we could, Andy took a quick video of everything in the house, and we headed back to the cabin (because at this point it had turned to a mandatory evacuation).  Here is a photo of the fire from a distance:

The air was quite smoky for days...

We didn't get any more photos because, well, that wasn't our priority at the time.  We were in panic mode for a while.  We are very fortunate to have family in town and we stayed at Uncle Jim and Aunt Robin's house for Sunday and Monday night.
August 17th: At 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday night, we were given the amazing news that we could return home.

Due to the fires, and many families being displaced, the district postponed our first day of school.  Instead of starting on Thursday, August 19th, we started on Monday, August 23rd.

August 23rd: Abigail's 1st day of 3rd grade

August 23rd: Emma's 1st day of 6th grade

I even got home in time on the 1st day to walk home with her from the bus stop.

swimming at Uncle Ben's house

Abby was busy playing soccer this fall.

September 4th: We went to Swiss Days and couldn't pass up the gigantic cinnamon rolls.

We had a gorgeous fall so we took advantage by doing more hiking at Brighton.

We had a Flat Stanley come and visit us!

September 12th: Ms. Sue retired so we had to celebrate!  There was a celebration at Pinebrook Park and it was so much fun to see all of the families who have been positively impacted by Ms. Sue.

My sister, Emma, and I went to see 9-5 at The Egyptian Theater.

September 18th: We had the ladies frisbee golf tournament in Brighton today.  I finally got 1st place!

There was also a horror movie being filmed up in Brighton.

Emma chose to take up the flute this year.

September 30th:  We have had a few trip to the orthodontist for Emma, but this was Abigail's first trip.  It sounds like Abigail will be needing 2 rounds of braces.

We still get visitors in our yard every so often.

October 6th: mail deliverers at school

We got an early/fall snowstorm.  The snow didn't last long but Emma took full advantage of the weather.

October 10th:  My sister, Emma, and I went to see the newest exhibit at the Swaner Preserve--Survival of the Slowest.  Emma was over the moon excited to see a sloth up close.

October 14th-17th:  This year for Fall Break, we ventured down south of Green River, near 3-mile Canyon.  When we left, there was a bit of a snowstorm happening.

We did some repelling a couple of the days.

And then did a great hike to the Green River.

dinner time!

It was super fun just to hang around camp.

On the last day, we did an amazing hike in Canyonlands National Park.

October 23rd:  Somebody loves to read--wherever and whenever

October 24th: carving pumpkins

October 29th: We celebrated Halloween at school today. Andy and the office staff dressed up as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

The Special Ed. staff dressed up as The Day the Crayons Quit.

Abigail and a couple of friends dressed up as Ghostbusters.

After school, Abigail did a BOO-gie dance camp at the high school.

October 31st: We went down to Tom and Terry's for chili and trick or treating with Kyler.

Somebody got glasses for long distances...

November 5th:  just a little hike around the neighborhood

November 9th:  The girls got their 1st COVID vaccines today!

November 13th:  My sister took the girls to the Broadway Musical of Frozen.  They all had a blast!

November 14th:  We went hiking in Round Valley.  It was a gorgeous day!
