May in a Nutshell

Tomorrow is our last day of school for the 2017/2018 school year!  We can't believe it.  Emma had an amazing 2nd grade year and is becoming quite the reader.  Abby is finishing her last year of preschool before starting kindergarten.  Yep.  The entire Tullis family will be at one school next year.  I joke that we are going to do family pictures on school picture day.  You never know...

We have a busy summer ahead: visiting family, finishing house projects, camping, celebrating our 10-year anniversary, and relaxing.  Here is what we have been up to during the month of May:

May 11th-13th:  Abby went to Boston with Andy's mom from May 10th-15th so Andy, Emma, and I ventured down to Torrey, Utah with some friends.

This was the view from the lodge we stayed in!

Hiking time!

The next day, we went for another hike and saw some pictographs.

May 19th:  Running with Ed!  This year, our school dressed up as farm animals.  Next year, Abby said she wants to run!

Here we are!

Some of the teachers' kids dressed up, too!

Emma 1st leg = 1.5 miles

My teaching partner, Nora, and I had to take a selfie in front of the McPolin Barn, a very iconic building in Park City, while running our 5 mile leg.

Yay!  We have another mama and baby moose hanging around our yard!

Emma had a "Spring Sing" at school.

She is in the middle on the top step.

Memorial Day Weekend:  Aunt Tina came to visit!  She spent a couple of days with Abby.

She had never been to southern Utah so we to her to Moab to experience Arches National Park.  It was also the first time she had camped in a looooooong time

May 26th:  On our first morning, we packed up lots of water and food and started our trek to Double O Arch, a 5-mile roundtrip hike.

Do you see the Double O arch in the background?

On this particular hike, we saw 6 arches.

It was Andy's birthday so we celebrated by cooking steaks over the campfire (one of his favorite camping meals) and...

...a birthday s'more!

May 27th:  Today we hiked to Delicate Arch, explored a few more arches, and ventured out of the park for a bit.

We also stopped at a few other arches after the Delicate Arch hike.

We left Arches National Park and took Tina to Deadhorse Point State Park.  The girls were fascinated by the ranger talk.

If you have seen Thelma and Louise, this is actually where they filmed the final scene, even though the movie said it was Grand Canyon.

On our way back to Moab, Andy took us down Long Canyon which entailed driving under a rock.  Crazy!

May 31st:  Our final unit in 2nd grade was all about Famous Americans.  As a culminating activity, the kids chose a famous American to study, wrote a biography about that person, and presented a haiku poem as they dressed as their person.  Emma chose Betsy Ross.

My mom sewed her dress.  It was perfect!

Later that afternoon, we celebrated Abigail's preschool graduation!

This is Ms. Jo-Anne.  She pretty much helped us raise the girls.  You see, she was their infant teacher at the daycare.  Even though she doesn't work there anymore (and hasn't since Abby left the infant room), she took time off of work to see Abby's graduation (Abby's class was her last class before she moved on to another job.)

I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of our family--Andy's new truck!  He finally got his Tacoma back after having to trade his old one in for the 4-Runner before we had Abigail.  He is pretty excited!

just a recent update on our friends

We took our 2nd grade classes hiking up PC hill today and we are very fortunate Andy could sneak out of work and go with us.

So Many Reasons to Celebrate!

Breathe in...Breathe out...Breathe in...Breathe out...Phew!  May is a busy month but we have had many reasons to celebrate recently.

I mean...these shoes have been well loved (and used) by both girls and Abby finally agreed it was time to say "good-bye" to them.

With the girls' Junior Ranger pin collections growing, I made each of them this felt holder for their pins.  It even has a pocket.

Abby is becoming quite a little fish!  Her progress with swimming has been exciting to watch.

April 27th:  Emma had some artwork shown at our local art center!  Students from all over the area have a chance to show their work.  The exhibit was all student art and it was amazing!  Emma was so proud (and so were her mom, dad, and Nana)!

Afterwards, we celebrated with dinner at our favorite sushi restaurant.

April 29th: We went on a glorious hike up Bell's Canyon with some friends.

3 miles later (with a pretty steep last 1/2 mile), we were welcomed to this beautiful sight...

May 1st:  For Principal's Day, Emma dressed up like our principal

This photo may not look like much, but it means a lot.  On May 1st, I "graduated" from physical therapy (for knee issues)!  This is a photo of Round Valley, a trail system where I have run hundreds of miles.  With my knee injury, I hadn't been able to run since November.  Wearing my knee brace, I was back at it in Round Valley last Friday and I felt great!  I am only up to 2-3 miles but it's a start.

May 5th:  The girls ran in their own trail race--Moose on the Loose.

Abby was in the "mini moose" category and ran a 1/2 mile.  She is a fast little runner!

Emma was in the "junior moose" category and ran 1 1/2 miles.  She did awesome!

This little girl had a super fun birthday party at the bowling alley and, as a gift for her friends, she made them all frames.

May 6th:  Abby had her 5th birthday party at Jupiter Bowl.

As a gift from the bowling alley, all of Abby's friends signed a (real) bowling pin for her to take home.

May 9th is Abby's actual birthday.  We can't believe she is going to be 5 years old!
